The NEONScience channel is devoted to explaining the methods and the science behind measuring things in ecology. We cover topics ranging from simple measurements of plants and animals to complex measurements of ecosystem processes like photosynthesis and movement of carbon across an ecosystem. In addition, we provide videos to better explain the methods used by the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), which is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and operated by Battelle.
NEON will provide free and open data and education resources for 30 years to support a better understanding of ecological change. For more on the NEON project visit neonscience.org.
Be sure to check out our Data Skills portal (neonscience.org/neondataskills) for tutorials on working with data in free and open tools like R, Python, QGIS and more!

REDB - Red Butte Creek, NEON Aquatic Field Site | Utah
Red Butte Creek is a NEON aquatic field site located just east of Salt Lake city, Utah in NEON’s Domain 15. This stream is confined within a steep canyon drainage basin in the southwestern Rocky Mountains and is fed by a 16.7 square kilometer watershed. Abundant hardwood trees and willows surround Red Butte Creek while grasses and shrubs comprise the understory. Red Butte Creek was declared a Research Natural Area because of its status as one of the last undisturbed watersheds in the Great Basin. Aquatic organisms collected at Red Butte include aquatic microbes, macroinvertebrates, algae, and plants. Automated instruments at the site also collect physical and chemical properties of the cr...

Great explanation. Has anyone ever thought of using these ideas for a language model? You would have continuous learning built in due to the Bayesian Approach?
If hair on an old man’s back makes the narrator go ‘oowh’ then don’t show it
Can someone tell how to read the waveform data?
7:22 just to make that statement stand on its own, as you increase your spatial resolution, you decrease your spectral resolution because you must also widen your spectral band pass to get good SNR across multiple smaller pixels.
An excellent introduction to the concept - thank you

Bonjour, Merci pour cette vidéo ! Vous évoquez une seconde vidéo sur la mesure du sous-couvert arbustif. Est-elle disponible ? (je ne l'ai pas trouvée sur votre chaîne). Merci de votre réponse.
Nice lecture. I also like how this gives Pam from The office vibes...
First deployment of any substance actually occurred up at CPER in April of 2016 with the COMROD tower. How do you prevent the exhaust from the generator being ingested into the HVAC intake on the hut? Has Staarmann's mobile power hut/trailer/three Kohler propane generator/battery storage fiasco been abandoned?
This is my DREAM job!

Great video! Thanks. Could you please share which R package you'd recommend?
Quick point of clarification…The drone is either a Matrice 300 or 350. It’s not a 600 (which is a hexacopter not a quadcopter).
The video installment in the Ecological Forecasting series serves as an illuminating exposition on the application of Bayesian statistical inference to predictive environmental modeling. It critically examines the classical presuppositions inherent in conventional statistical frameworks and delineates the methodologies for quantifying and reconciling the variances between empirical observations and model projections. By emphasizing Bayesian inference, the presentation underscores a paradigmatic shift towards embracing probabilistic approaches that accommodate the inherent uncertainties in ecological data and model structures, thus offering a more robust and nuanced understanding of future ecological states. This Bayesian perspective is particularly pivotal for advancing the accuracy of ecological forecasts, which are integral to strategic environmental planning and decision-making.
Thanks everyone! Tell J.Sanovia I said hello!
What a beautiful and fundamental network of individuals who care enough about how and why our world is changing as it is. And what a critical link in the chain of overall ecological and environmental preservation. Thank you for all that you've done, and all that you will continue to do!

Quick question: how come light reflects exactly in the direciont of where it came from? What if it does not?
Well done. Thanks. Now looking for the video that explains how LiDAR is used to map forests. My interest. Also interested in when free LiDAR will be available and where to find it.
I loved your EMU!!! GO GO EMU!
Disappointing. Very POOR PRODUCTION QUALITY! The audio was pathetic. I understood very little of the introduction, she sounded tinny (and very tiny, for that matter). Plus it sounded like there were gaps in the audio. Fortunately the sctual speakers had much better audio.
If love to know what my spectral signature looks like.
Lidar
😄 Promo`SM
Some errors, no clock can measure the time it takes light to travel such a short distance. Each pulse has a unique 'signature' and the sensor tracks when it leaves and when it returns, then calculates the distance afterwards.
Absolutely Stunning place 👍💯
Ben.
In my calculation the speed of light is about 144 miles/ s but couldn't verified yet... If we use 1 mile of fiber glass wound than accurate timing of light speed and same light send through a transparent tube same length then calibration of speed of light for LIDAR or radar could be achieve for better avionics calibration
Is landscape is the influence of echo sound and light from time opposite domain of earth?
Thanks for the presentation
Can material created from high refreshing rate 3 dimension projector at billion frame per second? Like vegetable or sugar salt?
I have a question - how does it always return emitted laser pulse back to the plane? - How can we guarantee the needed angle? What if the surface just reflects it to another direction?
Awesome !Thanks
Amazing, informative video👏
Calmmm down......
I know your pissed
That was fun devolpment
I am very interested in this field.
QQ Ala Q
If the light is well calibrated then use the pixel per inch then calculate it's rate of light expansion is how we get correct high and color change or intensity change is revealing it's property of materials and instead of single sweeping laser we should use line scanning or ring line better
Following along in work sessions like this are super helpful for my style of learning
